Schulman Bhattacharya, on behalf of its client, Dr. Mohsen Mosleh, filed a complaint against Howard University in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia for its violations of the D.C. Human Rights Act. Dr. Mosleh, a tenured professor at Howard University of Iranian descent, asserts claims against the university for its long-standing discrimination against him on the basis of race and national origin and various acts of retaliation against him. On February 27, 2020, Judge Carl J. Nichols denied the university’s motion to dismiss Dr. Mosleh’s discrimination and retaliation claims. The Court noted that Dr. Mosleh has adequately “pleaded adverse actions that affected his financial status, responsibilities, and future employment opportunities, each of which could dissuade a reasonable employee from making charges of discrimination[.]” The case will now proceed to discovery.
